Program Description

For the first time in modern history, our consumer base encompasses four generations and will soon approach five generations.

Recognizing that the different generations have different financial service attitudes as well as needs, the Filene Research Institute explores how different generations view money, debt, financial institutions, and financial products and services. This data from focus groups and online discussions can help credit union leaders better understand each generational group and how different generations view aspects of the financial services industry. In addition, the report provides insights and practical directives for credit unions to better support and attract members of various generations.

You’ll understand how each generation:

  • Views savings, credit, and loans differently, to help you better target communications to each generation
  • Responds to finances, to help your consumer-facing employees communicate better with current members and attract new members
  • Has traits and concerns and life-stage events that may enable you to better design products or services to appeal to several generations

Meet The Presenter:

As the Manager of the Filene Research Institute’s Cooperative Trust, Lauren Culp leads and empowers a growing community of young advocates for credit unions and cooperative finance. As the Trust continues to mature, Lauren focuses her energy facilitating young adult disruption in the cooperative financial industry in a way that invites credit union lovers of all ages to join in. A Gen Y-er herself, Lauren loves talking about Millennials, the changes they are driving in our workplace, and how to reach them.

In 2016, Lauren crashed the CUNA G.A.C., which jumpstarted her love for credit unions. Eager to get involved in shaping the future of cooperative finance, Lauren became a member of the Filene i3 Class of 2018. Prior to her role at Filene, Lauren spent five years at True North FCU in Juneau. Most recently, Lauren worked in business lending focusing on developing community relationships and meeting the needs of small business owners while driving efficiency and accuracy in the back-office.
