Program Description

When your credit union’s loan demand tumbles, how do you pick it back up?
Wayne Watters, President of Travis County CU in Texas, shows a real-world example of how he sparked new life into a credit union’s loan portfolio that had fallen flat for over ten years.


Boosting team spirit and developing in-branch Member Appreciation Days sparked new interest in the credit union. Using the right mixture of advertising, new staff incentives, and technology to improve the process drove an immediate and sustained spike in loan demand.

Meet The Presenter:

Wayne Watters began his career in financial services in 1996 and specifically credit unions in 1998.  He demonstrates excellence in staff development, member engagement, building the credit union brand, and improving CU systems and processes.

As President of Travis County CU, Wayne improved technology and launched successful member engagement strategies through in person, social media and email campaigns to deepen member relationships and increase member loyalty.  Staff initiatives were developed to include a self-tracking incentive program and coaching strategy which led to robust loan growth.  Online reputation strategies were incorporated to encourage online reviews by members to help bolster the credit union’s online reputation and stimulate new member growth.
